What to Look for in a Landscaping Truck
How to Choose the Right Landscaping Vehicle
Finding a landscaping vehicle that meets all your needs can be difficult, but at VV Fleet our team has the knowledge and experience to help you make the right vehicle choice and equip it with the necessary upfitting options.
What to Consider
- Truck or Van? Although trucks are more commonly used for landscaping, there can be an augment made for both landscaping vans and landscaping trucks. Trucks offer greater ease of access for equipment and supplies in the bed, as well as the ability to store large, awkwardly shaped pieces of equipment. Vans have the advantage of greater organization options for mid sized and small equipment, as well as more security from theft for your equipment. Box trucks are the right choice if you have oversize equipment such as riding mowers, their ramps allow for easy loading and unloading. Dump trucks are a good option if you need the ability to haul away debris after the job is done.
- Cab size: If you’re transporting your crew to the worksite, then cab size is definitely a factor to consider. If you have a team size between three and six, then a crew cab pick-up will be most comfortable, but double cab will also work. Extended cabs typically fit up to four passengers. If you work alone, with a single partner, or have team members that drive separately, then regular cabs or cargo vans are also an option.
- Towing and payload: Knowing the approximate weight of your equipment and crew is important for selecting a truck with a high enough payload. If you have additional rideable equipment beyond what you can fit in your truck bed, you’ll have to select a vehicle with a high enough towing capacity and outfit it with a trailer. Although having enough payload and towing capacity is important, you don’t want to go overboard and sacrifice fuel economy needlessly.
